New transfer partner:
Citi points just keep getting more valuable. Last year, Citi added the ability to transfer to American Airlines at a 1:1 ratio, and as of today, Citi points can be transferred to JAL at a 1:1 ratio.
If you transfer Citi points to JAL by 10/24 at 11:59pm ET, you can get 1,300 JAL miles for every 1,000 miles transferred there!
If you don’t have a Citi card with an annual fee, Citi also allows transfers from no-annual fee cards, but at a 1:0.7 ratio. The 30% bonus will still apply, making for an effective 1,000:910 ratio.
That’s significantly better than transfers from Capital One, which are normally at a 1:0.75 ratio. Currently, Capital One also has a 30% bonus for transfers through 9/30 at 11:59pm ET, so that’s an effective 1K:975 ratio.
JAL has a lot of mileage sweet spots, including short-haul bargains and lower fuel surcharges on British Airways. Having the ability to transfer at parity is great, as AMEX and Chase points don’t transfer to JAL.
Note that if you open a new JAL account, it may take up to 7 days before you can redeem miles after a mileage transfer.
It’s also worth noting that JAL miles expire 36 months after they are earned, regardless of activity. That means even with a transfer bonus, I wouldn’t speculatively transfer in points without a specific redemption planned.
Date changes are free and cancellations are just $20.
JAL miles can only be redeemed for these relatives:
