Air Canada Aeroplan blocked Star Alliance award bookings to/from Israel this past March during the Iran war.
That wasn’t a big deal when no Star Alliance carriers were serving Israel, but as European airlines returned earlier this summer, followed by United a few weeks ago, the inability to book Star Alliance awards to Israel using Aeroplan miles became egregious.
I called out American for doing something similar in January 2025, and the airline restored partner award booking shortly thereafter.
After DansDeals broke the news about Air Canada resuming Tel Aviv service in November and published the first statement from Air Canada about the airline removing an antisemitic in-flight service director from service, DDF member ShimonFly suggested that we also reach out about the award blocking issue.
We reached out to Air Canada two weeks ago for comment about the issue, but didn’t receive a response. We reached out again last week with a deadline before writing an article about the issue, and lo and behold, Star Alliance award space has finally been restored:
The airline still hasn’t issued any formal statement, but hey, all’s well that ends well!
