Book Ahead For The Quieter Months, Too!

Several car rental companies in Israel were sold out on many dates in May, June 2026, and even now in October. Sometimes it was certain car groups; often, a company had no cars available at all. These included dates when finding a car used to be straightforward, well outside the summer and Yom Tov rush.

Car rental companies in Israel are keeping smaller fleets. Suitable cars from importers’ surplus stock are harder to find, used rental cars are harder to sell, and the security situation has made companies more cautious about buying.

The 7-8-9 seaters are especially limited. They’re used mainly by tourists and can sit unused between busy periods, so companies are keeping fewer of them.

Once you have your dates, it’s worth arranging the car. You pay only when you pick it up!

What’s Behind The Slightly Higher Prices?

The exchange rate is one reason. A dollar buys close to 15% fewer shekels than it did at the end of 2024, making local expenses more expensive in dollars.

In January 2026, the Israel Airports Authority significantly increased what rental companies pay to operate at Ben Gurion. Those higher operating costs affect rental prices beyond the separate airport charge.

For a typical rental of more than a week, the airport fee alone now comes to over $100.

What’s Changed At Ben Gurion?

The airport changes also reassigned parking areas and counters within the rental complex.

Remember returning your Hertz car at Terminal 3? That arrangement has ended. You now return all car rentals to the rental compound and take a shuttle to the terminal.

Some companies are considering bringing back a paid VIP transfer in 2027. You would still go to the return compound – not Terminal 3 – but a driver would join you and drive you and your luggage to the terminal in the same rental car, saving you the shared shuttle ride.

And that’s just one example of the many details worth knowing before your trip. An experienced agent who deals with Israel car rentals every day should be familiar with these changes and know what to tell you before you fly. At NoachCar, Israel car rentals are our entire focus.

Make Sure It’s Apples To Apples!

Even with your credit card’s rental coverage, in Israel third-party insurance is still required. A reliable agent should include it and the applicable airport charges in your quote upfront. After a long flight, extra charges at the counter aren’t much of a welcome.

With most of our suppliers, we can arrange a Shabbos-observance discount. An additional-driver benefit or other benefits may also be available, depending on the reservation.

Compare the REAL total after the mandatory charges and available discounts -not one company’s basic daily rate against another’s complete quote.

Take The Pictures, Even When Everyone Wants To Get Going

In Israel, rental companies are much more particular about vehicle damage than many American renters are used to. Even the smallest scratches can matter.

So before driving out of the rental lot, take an extra two minutes to walk around the car with your phone. Take pictures, a short video, or both. Make sure to capture any existing marks, and include the rental company’s parking lot in the background so it’s clear the pictures were taken at pickup.

Don’t skip it just because everyone is eager to get going. If a question or misunderstanding comes up when you return the car, one clear picture can be worth a thousand words – and save you quite a bit of aggravation!

That way, you can enjoy your trip with one less thing on your mind.
